The world was trying to determine what would happen with the contained Miners in Chili. It has been keeping everybody on edge. There was a concern for the Miners in Chili which were still alive however stuck without hope of rescue. NASA advisers and officials went to the site to help get miners out with rescue crews. Months might be required to obtain them. Drilling a rescue shaft has begun, but it can be slow going.

Chile sees NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has sent staff to the site of the Chilean mine disaster in an advisory role. The miners are trapped 2,200 feet underground. National Aeronautics and Space Administration engineers and scientists are responsible for getting supplies to the miners. The only things that could be given to the men come through three four inch wide tubes, reports the Washington Post. This has to receive supplies to 33 men. One tube pumps in oxygen, one more sends supplies, and also the third tube for video conferencing, so miners can communicate with loved ones. Trying to obtain everything down a four inch tube is the real problem.

Encouragement and advice that is given

The Washington Post had an interview. This interview was with NASA former astronaut, Jerry Linenger. There was a fire in 1997 on the Mir space station that caused Linenger to be the only American Astronaut trapped. There were also two other astronauts there with him. Linenger’s advice to the men was that they need to stay busy, but not receive their hopes up. He stressed that expectations that are too high lead to depression and despair if things do not go the way they hope. He cautioned that ideas of a clear leader taking charge of the situation underground is imprudent, as the miners need to keep a cooperative mindset.

Camp Hope is an option

There is a camp called Camp Hope near the mine. This is for all of the rescue workers, family members and support staff. Meanwhile, the mining company is begging for forgiveness and near bankruptcy. You will find no wages for the contained miners. It won’t pay for the wages.
